GOALS
The goal of KMS Baseball is to educate parents and to provide high quality instruction to area youth in hopes of creating positive habits and a deeper understanding of every facet of the game. KMS Baseball will offer instruction through clinics, camps, travel teams, and educational seminars throughout the Tri-State area.
The Barn” is a place where dreams don’t work unless you do. It’s a place where the integrity of the game, and of those who play it, is the highest standard. “The Barn” was born from one boys dream as well as his tragedy. In 1995, Mark Shives returned home from playing in the Cape Cod League and was preparing to leave for Florida International University. On the day Mark was to leave for Florida to begin his college career at FIU his dad was tragically killed in a work-related accident. Two days after burying his father, Mark left for Florida. He decided then to honor his dad by playing every game and at every practice with his dad’s initials written on the inside of his hat. Keith had always asked his son to play as hard as humanly possible regardless of whether he was in a game or at practice. That is the same lesson Mark wanted to hand down to others. He realized generations may come and go but hard work and dedication is a trait that should be handed down. In 2002, Mark returned home to run a baseball camp for local youth. His goal was to pass on a work ethic he received from his father; Keith Mark Shives. Mark used his dad’s initials, KMS, for the youth camp. That is when the idea of “The Barn” was conceived. Now, 14 years later, other young boys come to “The Barn” to train. Each young man dreams of their names being written on Mark’s draft board, but they are encouraged that if they want something they never had, then they have to do something they’ve never done; work hard. And when they think they’ve done so, work harder!

"Mark, I came across your website today! How fabulous it is that you have moved to another journey that is inclusive of guiding Kannon down the baseball journey! Blake is doing well at Shepherd, double majoring in business and financial management with a minor in economics. He carries a 4.0 while also managing the local nursery as well as helping a lady on her little farm. Quite the entrepreneur in business and sales, everything he touches seems to turn to gold. While he may have never made it to the big show, the lessons and work ethic he learned from coaches like you have transferred into his academic and professional life. For that, I thank you and will be forever grateful for his time at "The Barn". Post college, he expects to set himself up in his own business. Best of luck with your new endeavor! Hopefully one day we will see you again on the field!"

”Over the past 5+ years Mark Shives has passionately guided, pushed and taught my son the finer points of pitching. Mark has a rare gift to connect to each player and define a plan for success. His lessons are direct and to the point, without sugar coating - you get the honest truth. He can break down mechanics to the smallest detail and build it back properly. For players willing to listen, and put in the necessary work, the sky is the limit. His pitching knowledge is trusted by college and professional teams nationwide. His network of contacts is truly impressive. Time in "The Barn" is one of our best baseball memories. Without question, Mark's guidance and influence has been the single most important part of my son's baseball development. 2014 MSABC All State (MD), 2014 MLB Draft San Diego Padres (21st Round), University of Notre Dame, 2016 Cape Cod League All-Star & All-League Selection, and Currently ranked #9 College Prospect for 2017 MLB Draft by PerfectGame.org”

"A lot of my success I owe to my time spent working with Mark in 'The Barn'. He prepared me to compete at the next level and taught me how to work hard to help me achieve my goals. Through Mark's own knowledge and dedication, he has helped me play Division 1 college baseball and continue on in Major League Baseball. He continues to support as I pursue an MLB career"
- Josh Conway
”Coach Shives has an unmatched ability to see pitching mechanics in real time and say exactly what you need to hear to make an adjustment. My time at "The Barn" and playing for Coach Shives helped prepare me for a successful college baseball career.”
- Ben Denver
”Some of the best time spent with my son was in that barn. Josh not only learned how to be a pitcher, he learned how to be mentally tough on the mound. He looked forward to every lesson and thrived off of Mark's intensity. To this day when I watch him pitch for the Cubs I see him making adjustments on the mound that he learned in that barn. Josh would not be where he is today without Mark Shives. Thanks”
- Dave Conway
"Without the guidance of Coach Shives I would not be in the position I am today. When I arrived at the barn, I was a decent pitcher with absolutely no command . Within the first few sessions I was able to see improvements in both command and velocity. Coach Shives has always been able to give advice no matter where I'm at. His knowledge and network skills, with college and pro scouts, will help make sure you are given the best opportunity of playing at the next level. If your serious about improving your baseball skills Coach Shives is the coach you want helping direct you."
